Recipe ideas: Spaghetti Bolognese Camping Style
Date added: 12.08.11
This recipe can be cooked in just one pan, although it is much easier with two or three! Camping cookery is all about improvising, so don’t be afraid to use handy plates, ziplock bags or packaging from food as impromptu lids, storage or chopping boards!
If you have one pan, cook the pasta first as it will take the longest, but will keep warm well! When it’s just cooked, drain and pop into a ziplock food bag until required.
If you have two pans, leave the pasta in the water in the pan & cover with lid or a handy plate until required.
Fry the mince next, with some onions & garlic if space allows. When cooked, if you are lucky enough to have three pans, leave in the pan & cover or if not pop into another ziplock bag.
Fry the onions, garlic, peppers & mushrooms and when cooked, tip in the tomatoes. You can add some herbs & seasoning at this stage. Heat thoroughly or until you are too hungry to wait any longer! This recipe does benefit from slower cooking so if you can wait, it’s great to leave it to simmer for a good few minutes
When you are ready to eat, you can either mix everything up in the largest pan you have by taking a little at a time or you can serve simply from the ziplock bags as you go, a dollop of pasta into a bowl, followed by a splodge of mince and topped with a lovely helping of the tomato & vegetable sauce.
This can easily be made vegetarian by adding quorn mince instead of beef mince.
